what is vertebral subluxation?
Vertebral subluxation is the misalignment of a vertebra in the spine from its normal position. When a vertebra is misaligned, the normal function of nerve signals between the body and brain and vice versa is affected. If left untreated, this can cause imbalances in other parts of your body and affect your overall health and well-being.
Unfortunately, these subluxations often go undetected in their early stages, and by the time pain and symptoms appear, the problem may have been present for months or even years. The good news is that you can prevent these subluxations with routine chiropractic care.
Regular chiropractic care is a great option to reduce your risk of vertebral subluxation, increase your resistance to stress, and strengthen your overall well-being from within. Chiropractors are trained to detect these subluxations and use chiropractic adjustments to help the body heal. When communication between the brain and body is improved and cleared of subluxations, the body returns to homeostasis.
Please note that subluxation can also occur in other parts of the body.
causes of vertebral subluxation
Subluxations are caused by one or more of the following three stressors (forces) that your body cannot adapt to.
Physical stress. This can be defined as external invasive forces that override the body’s internal resistive forces to be in a state of balance and wellness. These can include falls, injuries, car accidents, childbirth, repetitive motions, poor posture, sports injuries, accidents at work or home, improperly moving heavy objects, prolonged sitting or standing.
Chemical stress. This can be defined as external or internal chemicals that trigger physical reactions throughout the body, offsetting the chemical balance or equilibrium of the body. These may include neurotoxins, pollution, excessive alcohol, tobacco, medications, artificial sweeteners, food coloring, caffeine, biochemical constituents of foods, lack of proper nutrients (such as essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, proteins).
Emotional Stress. Emotional stress can be defined as internal emotional tension or mental strain that can produce physical responses throughout the body that offset the chemical balance or physical state of equilibrium. These can include chronic stress, fear, anger, family conflicts, grief, anxiety, depression, mood swings, etc. When these emotions are experienced, the muscles contract, which in turn causes the spine to stiffen and posture to suffer.
